As I mentioned in
sarahtheboring's journal, I've been slacking on
thefridayfive lately. So here it is!
1. What book or books were special to you in your childhood?
All of my Ripley's Believe it or Not! paperbacks. Yeah I started on the unusual and the paranormal early in life.
2. What was particularly special or memorable about those books?
Most of these belonged to my father and grandfather. So I cherish them as heirlooms as well as books.
3. Have you re-read any of them as an adult?
Of course! They're just as awesome today as they were in the 50's.
4. If so, were the books as good as you remembered them?
I wouldn't expect anything less from Ripley.
5. What do you think about movies being made out of children's classics (like the Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of The Rings, etc.)?
I think it's cool, especially if the director's a fan of the books. Their interpretation won't be 100% accurate because everyone's view on the book will be different. You can't expect the movie adaptations to be word for word perfect. New, fresh aspects to the story can be welcome if done properly.
