A Report for the Republic of Texas

As you prolly read in my roomie [livejournal.com profile] mature's journal, we've just returned from our vacation in Houston, Texas.

10/18 - We arrive at Intercontinental Airport (I refuse to call it by Bush Int.). After we meet with the father we go to have authentic Mexican at Sylvia's, a restaurant that is about as authentic as you can get with Mexican. We spend the evening quietly, but I'm assuming this as I forgot what we did that night. XD

10/19 - My birfday. We meet with my friend Mary and spend most of our day at the Houston Zoo. We had lunch at one of the best Greek restaurants in the country: Niko Niko's. Their falafel=GOD. If any of you guys ever visit Houston, go there. I demand it. Then we headed off to the Magick Cauldron for a mini-shopping trip of incense and oils. That evening dad and his wife took us to have Vietnamese. I love Vietnamese food to death, but the end result is always me being locked in the bathroom for hours. To top the evening off I had a bowl of Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate ice cream along with watching the Astros take the NL Pennant from the Cardninals. Haw haw! (Note - I am aware they got swept in the World Series, but hey, the Pennant's something, right?)

10/20 - Not much happened on this day, as we used it to loaf around the house. We shopped at the Galleria mall and allowed Heather to try Whataburger for the first time. How I love Whataburger.

10/21 - First day of Oni-Con. We started the day with a Taco Cabana breakfast and waited around for the dealer's room to open. As Heather waited in line I wandered off to check out the video game room. I met Big Bruno from neo-geo.com and several others from snk-capcom.com. I killed some time in there and took several photos. When the dealer room finally opened I found some interesting items to add to my growing collection:

-a Giroro puppet
-Keroro and Tamama plushies
-a Saboten/Cactaur plushie
-6 SNK gals gashapon
-a DoA Christie gashapon
-A Capcom vs. SNK 2 Kyo figurine
-3 buttons with silly captions
-2 Keroro Gunsou mangas
-a Guilty Gear X poster
-a mad scientists union t-shirt

I returned to the game room and tried my hand at some GGXX on the PS2. The guys who played me weren't too thrilled that they were being bested by a female Venom/Axl user. It's not my fault I've played better Dizzy users than them. ^__________^ The one guy I did lose to played a forimidable Slayer. All in all, I got some good practice in.

That night Mary and her boyfriend Johnny took us out to P.F. Chang's and a night of billiards at one of my favorite places in Houston: Slick Willie's. We downed beer and liquor and played pool for several hours before calling it a night.

10/22 - Another slow day. When dad came back from work we headed out to the Galleria again for some more shopping. I got me an Astros hat and pint glass to commemorate their Championship. Dad then went on the search for the mall's arcade, where I found to my surprise a large screen SvC: Chaos and GGXX. There I was without my camera to prove it. :(

10/23 - On the last day of the con, I got to play KoF 2002 on the big screen. I played some kickass Houston gamers, one who even complimented my Kensou. Even though the day was short, I still had a blast.

10/24 - A total loafing day. Heather and I did laundry and watched Drawn Together before dad came home. From there I treated everyone to Chinese takeout to thank them for having me stay with them.

Being back made me miss the city even more. I would move back, if it wasn't for the shitty public transportation. :D
